PICASSO'S GIRLS!
Inspiration wise, Oscar was thinking about another climate, specifically the artistic milieu of Paris roughly a century ago, to the then-controversial movement of Cubism, with the designer liberally quoting from the oeuvres of Pablo Picasso, Juan Gris,and Georges Braque. Cue a collage-approach, a trompe l’oeil mash-up of graphically placed paillettes, patchwork appliqués, newspaper, guitars, and "Cubist scribble" prints, all rendered on some classic Oscarisms: the slim cardigan skirt suit, the sleeveless sheath, the volume-pumped cocktail dress, the soft-yet-dramatic blouse. (Many worn, incidentally, with a rather fabulous bootie that was part sandal, part hiking kit.)
